Bill,

An excellent piece of information for parents. As you have eloquently stated, kids will developmentally self-regulate when they are ready. When anxious parents try to "fix" their children, they often end up exacerbating the problem. Recently, I saw a 10 year old patient who was pulling her hair out. In response, the parents purchased an educational computer program for the child to use to stop her trichotillomania! However, the problem actually was based on the parents excessive expectations regarding schooling and I believe that the kid had reason to want to pull her hair out! After working with the parents on setting realistic academic goals, the child's problem subsided. Best wishes to you and your Cooperative Kids Organization! jamespkrehbiel

I love your advice Bill. This approach has worked time and time again for me. My daughter once wore the same skirt to school for a month. My friends thought I was crazy, but I didn't think it was worth the stress to argue. I quickly realized that our morning routine was stress free if I let her wear it. She is in college now and you can be sure that she doesn't wear the same outfit 2 days in a row.
